The incident caused the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

Formal charges have been brought against two men in connection with a suitcase robbery where a substance thought to be capsaicin spray led to people being hurt at the major London air hub.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, now face two robbery charges and charges for using a harmful chemical, as confirmed by court officials.

The charges follow an probe of an attack at the parking structure at Terminal 3 on the weekend. Before the assault occurred, two women were robbed of their luggage stolen after exiting a car park lift, police said.

A young child was among those injured during the incident. A total of five individuals required hospital care and were later discharged.

The incident – described by police as was not part of a series and not being treated as terrorism – led to disruptions to rail services and the temporary blocking of the main airport road tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a short time.
